I've been coming here since I was a boy of 8 and it's one of the holiest of holies — one of the great places for natural history. I didn't visit the museum very often, Leicester where I lived was 100 miles away from London, so coming here was quite a journey. Each time was an astonishment — just looking at cases full of electric blue butterflies is enough to impress a child — enough to impress me anyway.

CGI has reached a peak of perfection and some of the people responsible for reaching that peak are involved in this project. It doesn't look like a cartoon — it simply looks real.

It did occur to me standing on the top floor of the central hall you've got this enormous space, like a cathedral, which gives you this sense of distance — an ideal place for computer generated images to waltz around the space.
